Tips: Specialty Spots

Use The Following Cleaning Tips To Remove These Specialty Spots

Note: Before proceeding with the specialty spot cleaning tips or cleaning agents, test an inconspicuous area for color transfer or damage to the carpet. Test using the cleaning agent full strength. Moisten the fiber with the cleaning agent and allow to dwell for at least five minutes. Blot with a clean white towel and check to see if color transfers onto the towel. If color transfers or if any damage is observed, proceed at your own risk.

Chewing Gum: Fill an 8 ounce glass with ice and turn the glass upside down over the gum. Keep the ice on the gum for at least fifteen minutes. Then, use a spoon to scrape the gum from the carpet. If necessary, repeat the process. NOTE: Smaller pieces of ice work better than large cubes.

Candle Wax: Warm the wax with a hair dryer on medium-high heat, holding the hair dryer 10-12 inches from the wax. NOTE: Work slowly and carefully. Do not overheat the carpet fibers to avoid damaging the carpet. As the wax begins to melt, blot the wax with a paper towel. As the paper towel becomes saturated with wax use another part of the towel. Continue warming and blotting the wax until it is removed.

Ink: Moisten a white cotton cloth with an acetone based fingernail polish remover. Blot the ink spot gently transferring the ink to the cloth. As the cloth becomes saturated with ink use another part of the cloth. Repeat until the spot is no longer visible. Saturate the spot with water and extract liquid using the SpotVortex.  NOTE: Avoid scrubbing the ink, as this will spread the ink and make the spot larger.

Permanent Marker: Moisten a white cotton cloth with isopropyl rubbing alcohol. Blot the spot gently transferring the ink to the cloth. As the cloth becomes saturated with ink use another part of the cloth. Repeat until the spot is no longer visible. Saturate the spot with water and extract liquid using the SpotVortex. NOTE: Avoid scrubbing the ink, as this will spread the ink and make the spot larger.

Wet Pet Urine: As soon as the spot occurs, remove surface urine with a paper towel. Immediately saturate the spot with water to dilute and suspend the urine. Use about 1 oz. of water per inch of spot; example, use 2 oz. of water for a spot 2 inches across. Note: Using large amounts of water may spread the urine through the pad and make it harder to recover. Vacuum the liquid from the carpet packing and pad using the SpotVortex. For best results repeat the rinsing procedure. After rinsing, saturate with SpotVortex Spot cleaner. Using the brush scrub the spot well, working from the outside inward. Allow the Spot cleaner dwell for 5 to 10 minutes. Rinse spot as before with water and extract liquid using the SpotVortex.

Dried Pet Urine: Saturate the spot with water, use about 1 oz. of water per inch of spot; example, use 2 oz. of water for a spot 2 inches across. Saturate with SpotVortex Spot cleaner. Using the brush scrub the spot well, working from the outside inward. Allow the Spot cleaner dwell for 5 to 10 minutes. Extract the liquid form the surface backing and pad using the SpotVortex. Repeat until the spot is removed. Optional: After following the Dried Pet Urine instructions above, you may saturate the spot with a solution of 1 part white vinegar to 4 parts water, and extract the liquid using SpotVortex. This final drenching helps to neutralize the urine and reduce the odor. Note: Vinegar may set some spots so this should only be done if the urine spot is not visible.
